Established in 2007 and covering more than 40% of the surface of the island, the national park is home to subtropical and tropical primary forests, constituting an impressive mosaic of ecosystems and sensational landscapes, such as the Bélouve Forest.
It includes two important volcanic mountains of which the extinct Piton des Neiges, rising to over 3,000 metres, and the Piton de la Fournaise, one of the most active volcanoes on the planet. The uniqueness of the landscape offers breathtaking viewpoints and crests hundreds of metres high. This exceptional landscape is also dominated by three magnificent cirques: Mafate, Cilaos and Salazie, born all three of landslides.
This paradise is a boon for hikers who come to admire the beauty and richness of Réunion's heritage, as this ensemble creates a unique and spectacular landscape that contributes significantly to biodiversity conservation.
