With its gardens and palms, ancient colonial facades, and concentration of shops, the Place des Palmistes doesn't seem to have changed since the 1950s.
But don't be fooled by its laid-back atmosphere during the heat of the day. At night, this is the spot. And this delightful period building, a historical monument built in 1890, is not just a chic hotel. It's also home to the best bar around, bar none.
Packed for lunch and dinner, the atmospheric spot serves delicious creole specialities, with a marinated fish salad in coconut milk and lime, and most especially its must-try homemade pizzas, served with spicy sauce which secret composition is preciously kept.
