The marathon that colours the city
Every year, thousands of runners in colourful shirts hit the streets of New York to participate in the city's legendary marathon. The event runs through all five boroughs as New Yorkers come out in droves to cheer on the marathoners.
No matter where you decide to watch the race from, take advantage to explore your surroundings. The city has incredible gems all along the route, from the traditional tourist sights near the starting line on Staten Island – like the former Fort Wadsworth military base or the Snug Harbor Cultural Center – to the Tavern on the Green in Central Park. The incredible Thanksgiving Day Parade
During this American holiday, the entire nation comes together to express their gratitude for all their family and friends. Part of the tradition is that everyone watches the greatest street festivities in New York: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
All along the parade route, from 77th Street to 34th Street, dozens of giant balloons bob through the air: Pikachu, Ronald McDonald, the Grinch, R2-D2 and more. Impressive floats alternate with the country's best marching bands. It is the perfect opportunity to spot Hollywood celebrities out for the occasion. Even the theatre gets in on the festivities
During the end-of-year festivities, head to the magical world of Radio City Music Hall, the largest indoor theatre in the world. Every day in November and December, the Radio City Rockettes put on an exceptional music hall show, including the famous “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers”, where the 36 dancers wearing their unique soldier hats fall like dominoes. Prepare to be dazzled by the life-sized nativity scene with sheep, donkeys and camels.
