Copas Central, with a Latin beat

A few steps from Rainbow Street, Copas Central is a favourite of local youth and expats alike, gathering around a pitcher of sangria and a few tapas.

Banana trees will show you the way before you can even make out the facade. A genuine symbol, the fruit tree is everywhere to be found, near the picture window, in the patio, as a pattern on 1950s looking washed-out tapestries… Glasses of mojito cocktails clink against each other and tapas cover whole tables, to the beat of sunny Latin tunes. There is no denying the underlying “Latino” theme at Copas Central.

Take a seat on one of the patio benches loaded with cushions, in the shade of a large banana leaf, and opt for a sangria – the bar's key drink (to be enjoyed in moderation, of course). Reggaeton music keeps late partygoers dancing at night, as you pair your drink with a selection of homegrown olives – spiced up, stuffed with grilled almonds or fried and stuffed with goat cheese – and other pintxos like fried japaleño peppers. Unless you would rather choose more traditional dishes, like the eggplant dip. Finish up and join the others on the dancefloor…
