Cà D'Oro alla Vedova: for a light snack

Eating on the run in a typical Venetian atmosphere.

Do not be fooled by the welcome, which is sometimes a little rough. The same family has run this trattoria since the late 19th century, and they have helped make the reputation of Venetian cuisine what it is today. The room is small, so, while waiting for a table, nibble some cicchetti, tapas-like appetisers at the counter, including delicious octopus. More than a restaurant, Cà D'Oro alla Vedova is also a bacaro, a typical place where to have a glass of wine with a few snacks, usually standing at the counter.

The restaurant has also made polpette, meat dumplings, their speciality, which are, it seems, the best of Venice. This is a reward that the linguine with squid ink and the octopus polenta deserve, both for their iodised fragrance (proof of freshness) as that of the very aromatic olive oil.

For dessert, the mamma makes biscuits that you dip in your coffee or, like the Venetians, in your glass of wine.
