The University of Glasgow is the spitting image of the Hogwarts School in the Harry Potter book series. Built in stone and of huge proportions, the elegant premises have been designed around several buildings linked by courtyards and long vaulted corridors. The roofs and turrets are subtle and finely crafted, and the bell tower is visible for miles around. This gothic style construct is the pride and joy of Glasgow, very high in the ranking of universities around the world. Among the alumni, you can count several Nobel prize winners and famous teachers like Adam Smith, James Watt and Albert Einstein.
The campus shelters several museums, including the Hunterian Museum which houses a collection of fossils, ancient tools and scientific instruments, as well as the Zoology Museum, rich in collections of insects, corals and stuffed animals. Also of interest is the Anatomy Museum, showing body parts preserved in formaldehyde (by appointment only). However, this one is not for the faint of heart!
