General Conditions of Sale for Seat Options on Air France flights in the Economy Cabin

Any Customer who reserves a Seat Option is deemed to have read and accepted the present General Conditions of Sale without reservations.
Air France Customers have the option to reserve where they want to sit in the aircraft, against payment and subject to availability.

1. Definitions

The terms and expressions used in the present General Conditions of Sale are defined as follows:

"Air France": Société Air France, a limited liability company incorporated under French law, with a registered office at 45 rue de Paris, F-95747 Roissy CDG Cedex, France, and registered with the Registry of Commerce and Companies of Bobigny under number 420 495 178.

“Air France flight”: Long-haul, Medium-haul and Short-haul flights, with an Air France flight number and operated by Air France, allowing you to book a Seat Option.

"Business Cabin": area aboard the aircraft for customers who have purchased a Business fare ticket. 

"Customer": an individual person of the age of majority with a reservation in the Economy cabin holding an e-ticket and wishing to reserve a Seat Option. Air France advises all persons with reduced mobility who have special travel needs, notably those requiring more leg room, to contact SAPHIR services (via the "Contact us" section of our website) prior to reserving a Seat Option.

"Duo Seat" : seat in the Economy Cabin on Long-Haul Flights, located
  • at the rear of the Boeing 777 and 747 aircraft, in some cases near galleys or restrooms,
  • at the front of the Airbus 330 and 340 aircraft.

"Economy cabin": area aboard the aircraft for customers who have purchased an economy fare ticket.

"Extra legroom seat": seat in the Economy Cabin that offers more legroom than standard seats and that can be reserved by the Customer as defined by the present Conditions.
Extra legroom seats can be located:
  • near emergency exit doors (except on A340 aircraft)
  • in some rows other than those located next to the emergency exit doors.

"General Conditions of Sale" or "Conditions" or "Present": the present Conditions defining the General Conditions of Sale for a Seat Option.

"Long-Haul Flight": a Long-Haul Flight with an AF flight number and provided by Air France, offering the opportunity to reserve a Seat Option.

"Medium-Haul Flight": a Medium-Haul Flight with an AF flight number and provided by Air France, offering the opportunity to reserve a Seat Option.

"Premium Economy cabin": area aboard the aircraft located between the Business and Economy cabins for customers who have purchased a Premium Economy fare ticket.

"Price" :  "Price": prices are shown in euros* and are per person, all taxes included. The price of a Seat reservation depends on the Seat Option selected by the Customer and varies depending on travel dates, destination and seat area.

* Or the equivalent amount in local currency on our websites. The price is rounded to the nearest whole unit and varies according to exchange rates, which are revised twice per year.

"Seat at the front of the cabin": seat located in the first 2-4 rows of the Economy Cabin (except for flights operated by Airbus 340 aircraft). The location and number of these seats depend on the aircraft type.

"Seat Option" or "Seat Options": opportunity offered to Customers to reserve a Seat Option under the present Conditions, subject to availability.

"Short-Haul Flight": a Short-Haul Flight with an AF flight number and provided by Air France, offering the opportunity to reserve a Seat Option.

"Websites": Air France websites accessible through www.airfrance.com

2. Booking Conditions and restrictions for a Seat Option

2.1 A Customer may purchase a Seat Option, subject to availability on Air France Flights:
  • when purchasing a ticket online,
  • after purchasing a ticket, in the “My Bookings” section of our websites,
  • during online check-in,
  • at certain interactive kiosks or check-in counters in certain airports,
  • at Air France ticket offices and call centres,
  • through their travel agent.

2.2 A Customer traveling on a Flying Blue award ticket can reserve a Seat Option after purchasing their ticket, in the "My Bookings" or during the online check in process.

2.3 A Customer traveling on a group ticket can reserve a Seat Option during the online check-in process and at certain interactive kiosks or check-in counters at certain airports.

2.4 On Short- and Medium-Haul Flights, only the "Extra Legroom Seat" Option is available.

2.5 This Option cannot be booked online when purchasing the ticket in the following cases:

  • Customers with reduced mobility who require special services must contact the Saphir services (via the “Contact Us” section of our Websites) before booking a Seat Option.
  • children traveling alone and using the Kids Solo service.


3. Payment

3.1 Customers can pay for the Seat Option using one of the following payment cards: American Express, Mastercard/Eurocard, Visa, Diners, UATP, JCB.

3.2 Seat Options can be paid in cash at Air France ticket offices.

3.3 After purchasing their ticket, Flying Blue members can use Miles to pay for their Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our websites.

3.4 Blue Credits can be used to pay for Seat Options. BlueBiz members can use their Blue Credits to pay for the Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our websites.

3.5 Air France will make every effort to respect any Seat Option assignment reserved according to the present Conditions. The Customer is informed by the present Conditions that Air France may be required to modify Seat Option assignments for operational reasons related to security and/or safety measures or operational irregularities, even after boarding.
In such cases, Air France cannot be held responsible. The price of the Seat Option will be reimbursed according to the terms listed in Article 5 below to Customers who could not benefit from a Seat Option reserved under the present Conditions.

3.6 A Seat Option reserved by a Customer is non-transferable.

3.7 A Seat Option reserved by a Customer may be transferred to another flight.

3.8 A Seat Option reserved by a Customer may be exchanged to purchase another available Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our websites. In this case, the Customer must pay any price difference between the Seat Options.

4. Conditions of use for Seat Options

4.1 By reserving a Seat Option, the Customer agrees to meet the following cumulative conditions:
(i) The Customer must have the capacity to enter into contractual relations.
(ii) If the Customer chooses a Seat Option located near an emergency exit, he or she must be able to assist in the event of an evacuation and must therefore fulfil the attribution criteria defined by air regulations: for safety and security reasons, occupancy of these Seats is limited to passengers able to understand safety instructions and meet the physical requirements.

This provision is meant to allow rapid access to emergency exits. Extra legroom seats cannot therefore be assigned to the following persons:
  • passengers with reduced mobility (traveling with or without a service animal),
  • pregnant women,
  • passengers whose body mass (waist larger than 135 cm / 53 in) is likely tp restrict access to an emergency exit,
  • all infants and children up to and including 11 years of age,
  • children of any age traveling alone and benefiting from the Kids Solo service,
  • passengers traveling with an animal in the cabin,
  • Passengers unable to fully understand or communicate in either French or English.

4.2 Seat Options may be located near galleys or restrooms.

4.3 When reserving a Seat Option, the Customer agrees to provide Air France with exact information and refrains from reserving if he or she does not meet the present Conditions. Failure to do so will result in Air France assigning a different seat to the Customer.

4.4 A Customer reserving a Seat Option can only do so in his or her own name or for a person who has duly assigned the Customer the authority to reserve a Seat Option in his or her name and account, hereafter named "Mandate Passenger". In this case, the Mandate Passenger is deemed to be familiar with and have accepted the present Conditions, and the Customer guarantees the respect of the Mandate Passenger for all the present Conditions.

4.5 The Seat Option is associated with an Air France flight number and must be used on the day of departure of the flight for which the Customer has purchased a Seat Option, unless the change has been made by the Customer.

4.6 The Seat Option purchased by a Customer is only refundable if under the cases provided for in article 5 "Refund conditions".

4.7 Members of the Flying Blue loyalty program will accumulate Miles and XP.

5. Refund Conditions

5.1 A Customer having reserved a Seat Option may only obtain a refund for the Price of the Seat Option in the following situations:

  • The flight for which he or she reserved the Seat Option is canceled and the Seat Option could not be honored on the rebooked flight;
  • Air France reassigned the Customer to another seat due to operational reasons related to operational irregularities or security and/or safety requirements.
  • The Customer purchased a Flex Fare and canceled his or her entire trip.

5.2 A Customer may request a refund for the Price of a Seat Option by submitting an online claim form, accessible via the "Contact us" section on our websites.

5.3 A Customer having reserved a Seat Option will not be able to obtain a refund for the Price of the Seat Option in the event that the Customer has not respected or fulfilled the present Conditions or if the Customer who purchased a ticket for the Economy cabin is complimentary upgraded to the Premium Economy, Business or La Première cabin.

5.4 In case the Customer purchases a paid upgrade, the Price of the Seat Option will then be deducted from the price of the Upgrade Option, or the Price of the Seat Option will be refunded.

6. Miscellaneous

Flying Blue members who have provided their Flying Blue number at the time of purchasing their ticket will benefit from the conditions below.
 
  • Flying Blue Platinum members and Air France and KLM Club 2000* members can reserve a Seat Option free of charge.
  • Air France and KLM Flying Blue Gold members benefit from a 50% discount on Seat Option prices.
  • Air France and KLM Flying Blue Silver members benefit from 25% discount on Seat Option prices.
  • Air France and KLM Flying Blue Explorer members benefit from a 10% reduction on Seat Option prices.

Only Flying Blue members who have provided their Flying Blue number at the time of purchasing their tickets can benefit from the conditions listed above.

7. Force Majeure

Air France will not be held responsible nor be considered as having failed in their obligations in the event of the non-performance of all or part of the reserved services if this breach is due to a case of Force Majeure as defined or interpreted by French jurisprudence. In this event, the Customer may not claim any indemnity, interest or compensation as result of a direct or indirect prejudice suffered by the non-delivery of services.

8. Data security and confidentiality policy

Customer data collected by Air France for the needs of Personalized Services at the Airport are handled according to the laws and regulations in force.

9. Modification of the present General Conditions of Sale

Air France reserves the right to proceed with modifications to the Present General Conditions of Sale at any time. Customer subscription to the Seat Option is subject to the General Conditions of Sale in force at the booking time, unless a change to these General Conditions of Sale is required by law or a government authority (in which case this change will also apply to all bookings already made by the Customer).

10. Applicable Law

The Present General Conditions of Sale are subject to French Law. In the event of litigation, only the French Courts will have jurisdiction except as otherwise indicated in the General Conditions of Sale.

Conditions for reserving a Seat Option on KLM flights

1. SEAT OPTIONS

1.1 Economy Comfort seats, seats offering additional leg room, and preferred seats in the Economy cabin are available in the Economy Comfort zone in the Economy cabin on intercontinental KLM flights and European KLM flights operated by a Boeing 737. Economy Comfort seats are subject to availability and involve an additional fee.

2. RESERVATION CONDITIONS FOR SEAT OPTIONS

2.1. A Customer may reserve a Seat Option for certain KLM flights:
  • when purchasing a ticket online,
  • after purchasing a ticket, in the “Check-in” or “Your reservations” sections of our website,
  • during the online check-in process (when a boarding pass is issued),
  • at certain interactive kiosks or check-in counters in certain airports.

A Customer traveling on a Flying Blue Award ticket can reserve a Seat Option in the “Check-in” or “Your reservations” sections of the website after purchasing the ticket or during the online check-in process.

A Customer traveling on a group ticket can reserve a Seat Option during the online check-in process and at certain interactive kiosks or check-in counters in certain airports.

2.2 Customers can pay for the Seat Option using one of the following payment cards: American Express, Mastercard/Eurocard, Visa, Diners, UATP, JCB.

2.3 BlueBiz members can use their Blue Credits to pay for the Seat Option.

2.4 Flying Blue Platinum members may book an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room, or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin at no extra charge. Flying Blue Gold and Silver members can book an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin at a discount rate. To use these advantages, customers must log in as Flying Blue members when booking. In all other cases, Flying Blue members may book an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin at the regular fare.

2.5 We will make every reasonable effort to fulfill your request for an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin. However, we reserve the right to assign or reassign an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin at any time, even after boarding of the aircraft, for operational, safety or security reasons. The final decision will be made by the ground staff and the operating crew on the day of the flight.

2.6 To purchase an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin, you certify that you possess the legal authority to enter into this agreement, and subsequently to be bound by the terms and conditions of this agreement.

2.7 In addition, you certify that all information supplied by you in a request for a particular seat is accurate and that your reservation is not speculative, false or fraudulent. You also certify that your reservation is for yourself, or for another person on whose behalf you are entitled to act. This person must also comply with the requirements set out in paragraph 2.1.

3. Refund

3.1 In the event that you are not assigned an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room, or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin after purchase, you are entitled to a refund corresponding to the amount paid for the specific portion of your trip in which a Seat Option was not provided.

Conditions for obtaining a refund for a Seat Option:
— you were rebooked on another flight:
  • at your request and you purchased a Seat Option on your new flight,
  • by KLM, for operational reasons or because your flight was canceled,
  • because you missed your connecting flight after an inbound flight on KLM and you were not provided with an Economy Comfort seat, a seat offering additional leg room, or a preferred seat in the Economy cabin on the alternative flight;

— we changed the aircraft type and there were no Economy Comfort seats, seats offering additional leg room, or preferred seats in the Economy cabin available on the alternative aircraft;

— for operational, safety or security reasons, we made use of our right to assign or reassign your Economy Comfort seat, seat offering additional leg room, or preferred seat in the Economy cabin either before or after boarding.

3.2 You can request a refund of the Price paid for your Seat Option by submitting an online refund request form available in the “Contact us” section of our site.

3.3 No refund will be made if you do not meet the criteria listed above.

4. Miscellaneous

4.1 ECONOMY COMFORT SEATS
This service offers you an Economy Comfort seat in the Economy cabin when this option is available. While Economy Comfort seats provide extra leg room and more seat recline, the services offered in the Economy Comfort zone are the same as those provided in the standard Economy cabin. For example, this zone receives the standard Economy cabin meal service.

4.2 SEATS OFFERING ADDITIONAL LEG ROOM
This service offers you a seat with additional leg room in the Economy cabin when this option is available. No other features distinguish this product from the other products in the Economy cabin. For example, this zone receives the standard Economy cabin meal service. Please note that other passengers may be seated in front of the seats offering additional leg room during your flight.

4.3 ECONOMY CABIN PREFERRED SEATS
This service offers you preferred seats in the Economy cabin when this option is available. Preferred seats include both aisle and window seats situated just behind the Economy Comfort zone, as well as in a row of 2 seats. Please note that some of these seats do not fully recline. No other features distinguish this product from the other products in the Economy cabin. For example, this zone receives the standard Economy cabin meal service.

General Conditions of Sale for Standard Seats on Air France flights in the Economy Cabin

Any Customer who reserves a Standard Seat is deemed to have read and accepted the present General Conditions of Sale without reservations.
Air France clients have the option to reserve where they want to seat in the aircraft against payment and subject to availability. It is only possible to reserve Standard Seats up to 30 hours before flight departure.

1. Definitions

The terms and expressions used in the present General Conditions of Sale are defined as follows:

"Air France": Société Air France, a limited liability company incorporated under French law, with a registered office at 45 rue de Paris, F-95747 Roissy CDG Cedex, France, and registered with the Registry of Commerce and Companies of Bobigny under number 420 495 178.

"Premium Economy Cabin": area aboard the aircraft located between the Business and Economy cabins for customers who have purchased a Premium Economy fare ticket. 

"Price": prices are shown in euros* and are per person, all taxes included. The price of a Standard Seat reservation depends on the Seat Option selected by the Customer and varies depending on travel dates, destination and seat area. The Price will be shown at the time of purchase. A confirmation email will be sent to the Customer after purchase.

"Standard Seat": any seat in the Economy Cabin except for seats sold as Seat Options (Seat at the front of the cabin, Duo Seats and Extra Legroom Seats.) 

"Standard Seat Option": opportunity offered to Customers to reserve a Standard Seat under the present Conditions, subject to availability. 

"Websites": Air France websites accessible through www.airfrance.com

2. Booking conditions and restrictions for Standard Seats

2.1 A Customer may purchase a Standard Seat Option, subject to availability, on Air France Flights up to 30h before departure:

  • when purchasing a ticket online
  • after purchasing a ticket, in the "My Bookings" section of our websites
  • at Air France ticket offices and call centres
  • through their travel agent.

Some Customers can reserve a Standard Seat at the time of purchasing their ticket or, after purchasing their ticket, in the "My Bookings" section of ​​our websites up to 30h before flight departure. Within 30h before the flight, Standard Seat selection is free (For more information, please refer to article 5 - Refund Conditions).

2.2 This Option cannot be booked online when purchasing the ticket in the following cases:
Customers with reduced mobility who require special services must contact the Saphir services (via the “Contact Us” section of our Websites) before booking a Standard Seat Option.

3. Payment

3.1 Customers can pay for the Standard Seat Option using one of the following payment cards: American Express, Mastercard/Eurocard, Visa, Diners, UATP, JCB.

3.2 Standard Seat Options can be paid in cash at Air France ticket offices.

3.3 Standard Seat Option can be paid using Miles. After purchasing their ticket, Flying Blue members can use Miles to pay for their Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our websites.

3.4 Blue Credits can be used to pay for Standard Seat Options.Bluebiz members can use their Blue Credits to pay for the Seat Option in the "My Bookings" section of our websites.

4. Conditions of use for Seat Options

4.1 Air France will make every effort to respect any Standard Seat assignment reserved according to the present Conditions. The Customer is informed by the present Conditions that Air France may be required to modify Standard Seat assignments for operational reasons related to security and/or safety measures or operational irregularities, even after boarding.
In such cases, Air France cannot be held responsible. The price of the Standard Seat will be reimbursed according to the terms listed in Article 5 below to Customers who could not travel on the seat number initially reserved under the present Conditions.

4.2 A Standard Seat Option reserved by a Customer is personal non-transferable.

4.3 A Standard Seat reserved by a Customer may be exchanged to purchase another available Standard Seat, subject to availability and payment of price differnce, either online in the "My Bookings" section of our websites or directly through your travel agent.

4.4 A Customer reserving a Standard Seat can only do so in his or her own name or for a person who has duly assigned the Customer the authority to reserve a Standard Seat in his or her name and account, hereafter named "Mandate Passenger". In this case, the Mandate Passenger is deemed to be familiar with and have accepted the present Conditions, and the Customer guarantees the respect of the Mandate Passenger for all the present Conditions.

4.5 The Seat Option is associated with an Air France flight number and must be used on the day of departure of the flight for which the Customer has purchased a Standard Seat , unless the change has been made by the Customer.

4.6 The Seat Option purchased by a Customer is only refundable if under the cases provided for in article 5 "Refund conditions".

4.7 Members of the Flying Blue loyalty program will accumulate Miles and XP.

5. Refund conditions

5.1 A Customer having reserved a Standard Seat may only obtain a refund for the Price of the Standard Seat in the following situations:

  • the flight for which he or she reserved the Standard Seat is canceled; the same Standard Seat number or equivalent Standard Seat could not be honored on the rebooked flight,
  • the same Standard Seat number or an equivalent Standard Seat could not be assigned by Air France due to operational reasons related to operational irregularities or security and/or safety requirements.

5.2 The Client will not be eligable to obtain a reimbursement of the Standard Seat Price if the Seat is part of the fare. (The Customer can reserve, in this case, a Standard Seat free of charge up to 30h before flight departure. In this case, the Customer is not eligable to obtain a refund even if the Standard Seat reserved free of charge is no longer available at the time of travel (including in the event of irregularities and/or operational reasons).

5.3 A Customer having reserved a Standard Seat will not be able to obtain a refund for the Price of the Standard Seat in the event that the Customer who purchased a ticket for the Economy cabin is complimentary upgraded to the Premium Economy, Business or La Première cabin.

5.4 In case the Customer purchases a paid upgrade, the Price of the Standard Seat Option will then be deducted from the price of the Upgrade Option, or the Price of the Seat Option will be refunded.

5.5 A Customer may request a refund for the Price of a Standard Seat Option by submitting an online claim form, accessible via the "Contact us" section on our websites.

6. Waiving of Option fees

6.1 Air France and KLM Flying Blue Platinum members, Club 2000* card holders, Flying Blue Gold members and Flying Blue Silver members may reserve a Standard Seat free of charge provided that they have provided their Flying Blue number at the time of booking. This fee waiver also applies to traveling companions in the same booking.
Customers who have not provided their Flying Blue card numbers at the time of purchasing their tickets can book a Standard Seat at applicable rates.

6.2 Customers who have purchased a Flex fare can reserve Standard Seats free of charge. More information.

6.3 It is possible to reserve a Standard Seat free of charge depending on destinations and fare paid.

6.4 Customers with reduced mobility receive Standard Seat Selection at no extra charge if they make a request to our sales service in advance.

6.5 Children traveling alone and benefiting from our Kids Solo service receive Standard Seat Selection at no extra charge.

6.6 Families traveling with children (up to 14 years of age) are assigned Standard Seats at no extra charge at least 2 days before their flight’s departure. Air France will make every effort to ensure that families receive neighboring seats, as long as all family members are included on the same booking. Seat assignment will be communicated when boarding passes are issued.

7. Force Majeure

Air France will not be held responsible nor be considered as having failed in their obligations in the event of the non-performance of all or part of the reserved services if this breach is due to a case of Force Majeure as defined or interpreted by French jurisprudence. In this event, the Customer may not claim any indemnity, interest or compensation as result of a direct or indirect prejudice suffered by the non-delivery of services.

8. Data security and confidentiality policy

Customer data collected by Air France for the needs of Personalized Services at the Airport are handled according to the laws and regulations in force.

9. Modification of the present General Conditions of Sale
